When Usage Tracking is enabled, all devices that connect to the StayLinked Server and will be added to the Usage Tracking database the first time they connect. The usage tracking information for the device will be updated each time the device connects to the StayLinked Server. Most of the information that is tracked is related to the device and its attributes. There are some \u2018Asset Tracking\u2019 data that you can manage yourself to help group and track devices in your organization. Also, you will use the Usage Tracking database to license devices for some of the StayLinked products. Using the \u2018Usage Tracking\u2019 listing, you can update properties of the device, view related usage data for the device and delete devices from the database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Displaying the Tracked Devices Listing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you select the \u2018Usage Tracking\u2019 option of the StayLinked Administrator, you will be presented with a number of listing options for the tracked devices. You can list your tracked devices by Country, by Division, by Location, by UserID, by Licensing Status or you can list all of the tracked devices. The Country, Division and Location groupings can be configured for individual tracked devices by modifying the properties of the usage tracking record for each device. The \u2018by UserID\u2019 grouping will be populated with User Names recorded by the \u2018Device Identification\u2019 or the related \u2018Host API\u2019 and \u2018Screen Recognition\u2019 features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select one of the \u2018by Country\/Division\/Location\u2019 groupings and you will get a list of all available values for that group. The \u2018by UserID\u2019 listing provides a quick way to determine who has been using which devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Devices that have no property value assigned for the selected \u2018by\u2026\u2019 groupings will be listed in the [unassigned] group. Select one of the groups to see a list of the devices that belong to that group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

You\ncan also select one of the licensing group options. If you select to list\ntracked devices by one of the \u2018Licensed for\u2026\u2019 options, then you will be\npresented with a list of all usage tracking records for devices that have been\nassigned to the selected licensed product.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, you can see a list of all tracked devices by selecting the \u2018All Devices\u2019 option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tracked Devices List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After selecting your tracked devices group, a list of the appropriate tracked device is displayed. The list contains many columns of useful information about the device. You can also double click on a specific device in the list to edit the properties of the specific device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nTracked Devices List information can be sorted into ascending or descending\norder by clicking on any of the columns headers. The currently sorted column\nwill be indicated by an asterisk (*). You can also drag the columns into any\narrangement that you desire. The sort order and column arrangement will be\nremembered the next time the Tracked Devices listing is displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\nare the values that are displayed for each device that is in the \u2018Tracked\nDevices\u2019 list. These values will represent those configured and reported when\nthe device last connected to the StayLinked Server:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Unique ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the unique identifier for this specific device. Each and every StayLinked device should have a Unique ID that will be used to track the device in the Usage Tracking database.<\/li>
  • Device Type \u2013 <\/strong>This value displays the type of device as reported by the StayLinked Client software.<\/li>
  • Device ID \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the device ID as assigned in the Operating System or in the Client Configuration on the device.<\/li>
  • MAC Address \u2013 <\/strong>This is the reported MAC address for this device.<\/li>
  • Device IP Address \u2013 <\/strong>This is the reported IP address of the device. This value may be displayed using the format PrivateIP-PublicIP if the device is running behind a NATed IP address.<\/li>
  • Client Version \u2013 <\/strong>This value will contain the version of Client Software running on the device.<\/li>
  • Rows \u2013 <\/strong>This value is the number of rows that will be displayed in a telnet session.<\/li>
  • Columns \u2013 <\/strong>This value is the number of columns that will be displayed in a telnet session.<\/li>
  • Config. Updated \u2013 <\/strong>This value is the date and timestamp of the last transmission of \u2018Client Settings\u2019 received from the StayLinked Server.<\/li>
  • Last Session ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the Session ID value for the current or most recent StayLinked Session to which this device was connected.<\/li>
  • Last Connection \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the date and time that this device last connected to the StayLinked Server.<\/li>
  • DM License \u2013 <\/strong>The value displayed in this column will be \u2018True\u2019 if the device is consuming a seat of the \u2018Device Management\u2019 license. Note that device management features are no longer offered for sale or support.<\/em><\/li>
  • Speech License \u2013 <\/strong>The value displayed in this column will be \u2018True\u2019 if the device is consuming a seat of the \u2018StayLinked Speech\u2019 license.<\/li>
  • SpeechLink License \u2013 <\/strong>The value displayed in this column will be \u2018True\u2019 if the device is consuming a seat of the \u2018StayLinked SpeechLink\u2019 license.<\/li>
  • Country<\/strong> \u2013 This user-defined property could be used to specify the country where the device resides.<\/li>
  • Division<\/strong> \u2013 This user-defined property could be used to specify a division for the device, like \u2018Retail\u2019, \u2018Distribution\u2019, etc.<\/li>
  • Location<\/strong> \u2013 This user-defined property can identify a specific location for the device, like \u2018Store 100\u2019 or \u2018Whse A\u2019.<\/li>
  • Asset Tag<\/strong> \u2013 This user-defined property can be used to identify the specific device. This property will be automatically updated with the device\u2019s \u2018Device ID\u2019 value when the Usage Tracking record is first created.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Tracked Devices Menu<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    When you view the tracked devices list in the main display panel of the Administrator, the Tracked Devices menu is available by clicking the right mouse button over the specified device in the tracked devices list. The \u2018Delete\u2019 menu option will function over multiple selections, which means you can highlight multiple connections in the list and then right mouse click. The \u2018Delete\u2019 menu option will then process all of the selected devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 Edit Properties<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The first item in the tracked devices menu is the \u2018Edit Properties\u2019 function. Select this option to open a window showing a tabbed dialog associated with the selected device. As noted above, this is the default menu option, which means you can open the \u2018Edit Properties\u2019 window by double-clicking a connection list entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Device Management Tab:<\/strong> This tab will only be displayed if the device has been licensed for \u2018Device Management\u2019. This tab will display some basic DM information. The information and the two functions available on this tab are described in detail in the \u2018Device Management User Guide\u2019. Note that device management features are no longer offered for sale or support.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Disable\nManagement:<\/strong>\nThis button can be used to disable management of this device. This option is\nalso available from the \u2018Managed Devices\u2019 listing. This button is provided as a\nconvenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Device Remote Control:<\/strong> This button can be used to launch a device remote control session. The device must be awake and communicating on the network before a device remote control session can be started. This button is provided as a convenience. This option requires installed Device Management licensing and activation on the specific device. Note that device management features are no longer offered for sale or support.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Properties Tab:<\/strong> This tab is provided so that you can configure the asset tracking information for this tracked device. The groupings and sorting of the devices will be determined by the values you enter here. All of the properties are case-sensitive and that also affects the grouping and sorting in the Tracked Devices listings. Press OK when you are satisfied with the properties for the device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

    Licensing Tab:<\/strong> This tab is used to assign optional licenses to your tracked devices. For the \u2018StayLinked Speech\u2019 and \u2018StayLinked SpeechLink\u2019 products, you will control which devices will consume a license seat using this dialog. The two checkboxes will be available only if the appropriate license is installed on this current StayLinked Server. In this example, the StayLinked Server is licensed for \u2018SpeechLink\u2019 and is not licensed for \u2018Speech\u2019. The Administrator software will verify with the server that there are enough seats of the selected licenses when these values are changed and saved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 View \u2013 Live Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018View\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Live Connections\u2019 option. Select this option to open the \u2018Connections List\u2019 which will display any live StayLinked connections that are running for the selected device\u2019s Unique ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can now perform any actions available for the listed connections as described in the StayLinked Administrator User Guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 View \u2013 Session Tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018View\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Session Tracking\u2019 option. Select this option to display a list of all Session Tracking History records for the selected device\u2019s Unique ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Session ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the unique identifier for the StayLinked session history record.<\/li>
    • Session Started \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the date and time when this session was started on the StayLinked Server.<\/li>
    • Session Ended \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the date and time when this session was ended on the StayLinked Server.<\/li>
    • Device Group \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the name of the \u2018Device Group\u2019 to which the device was a member when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host Group \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the name of the \u2018Telnet Host Group\u2019 that was assigned to the \u2018Device Group\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host Entry \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the name of the \u2018Telnet Host Entry\u2019 that was selected from the \u2018Telnet Host Group\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host IP \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the IP Address or DNS Name of the Telnet Host that was configured in the \u2018Telnet Host Entry\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host Port \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the Host (Telnet or SSH) Port that was configured in the \u2018Telnet Host Entry\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host Type \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the Emulation Type that was configured in the \u2018Telnet Host Entry\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Host Size \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the Telnet Session Rows and Columns that was configured in the \u2018Telnet Host Entry\u2019 when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Device Size \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the Viewport Rows and Columns that was configured on the device when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Device Name \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the \u2018Device Name\u2019 that was configured when the session was started. This value will be updated dynamically during the life of the session any time the Host APIs or Screen Recognition features are used to change the \u2018Device Name\u2019 value.<\/li>
    • Log Level \u2013 <\/strong>This value describes the server logging level that was in effect when the session was started.<\/li>
    • Server IP:Port \u2013 <\/strong>Here you will see the Server IP that the device connected to, and the dedicated UDP port that was assigned to this session.<\/li>
    • Client IP:Port \u2013 <\/strong>This is the IP and the UDP port on the device that the StayLinked Client was using to communicate to the server during the life of this session.<\/li>
    • Client Version \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the version of the client software running on the device when the session was started.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTracked\nSessions Menu Items\n\n\n\n<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      When you view the tracked sessions list in the\nmain display panel of the Administrator, the Tracked Sessions menu is available\nby clicking the right mouse button over the specified session in the list. From\nthis pop-up menu, you can access the following options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      View \u2013\nActivity Tracking:<\/strong>\nThis menu option will drill-down into a list of Activity Tracking records that\nwere recorded during the life of the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      View \u2013\nStatistics Tracking: <\/strong>This\nmenu option will drill-down into a list of Statistics Tracking records that\nwere recorded during the life of the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      View \u2013\nUserID Tracking: <\/strong>This\nmenu option will drill-down into a list of User ID Tracking records that were\nrecorded during the life of the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Server\nLogs \u2013 Session Log: <\/strong>This\nmenu option will load and display the server-side Session Log for the IP\naddress associated with the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Server\nLogs \u2013 Protocol Log: <\/strong>This\nmenu option will load and display the server-side Protocol Log for the IP\naddress associated with the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Server\nLogs \u2013 IP Traffic Log: <\/strong>This menu option will load and display the server-side IP\nTraffic Log for the IP address associated with the selected session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Export List: <\/strong>This menu option will prompt for a \u201cSave Local File\u201d location and file name where the current list of tracked sessions will be exported in a Comma-separated Values (CSV) format file.Refresh: <\/strong>This menu option will cause the current list of tracked sessions to be updated with the latest information from the server. You can also press F5 on the keyboard to refresh the list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 View \u2013 Activity Tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018View\u2019 submenu with an \u2018Activity Tracking\u2019 option. Select this option to display a list of all Activity Tracking records for the selected device\u2019s Unique ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

      The\nTracked Activity List information can be sorted into ascending or descending\norder by clicking on any of the columns headers. The currently sorted column\nwill be indicated by an asterisk (*). You can also drag the columns into any\narrangement that you desire. The \u2018Back\u2019 button,\nwhen displayed above the top-right of the list, can be clicked to return to the\npreviously displayed list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Here\nare the values that are displayed for each record included in the \u2018Tracked\nActivity\u2019 list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Session ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the unique\nidentifier for the StayLinked session that was running when the activity\ninformation was recorded into the database.<\/li>
      • Recorded \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents\nthe date and time when the activity information was recorded into the database.<\/li>
      • User Name \u2013<\/strong> If there was a UserID\nassociated with the device when the activity was recorded, that UserID would be\ndisplayed in this User Name column.<\/li>
      • Activity Information \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents\nthe information associated with this Activity record. The information is\ndefined in the Embedded Host API (API24) or Screen Recognition Host API that\nmust be implemented in order to record Activity Information in the Usage\nTracking database.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 View \u2013 Statistics Tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018View\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Statistics Tracking\u2019 option. Select this option to display a list of all Statistics Tracking records for the selected device\u2019s Unique ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

        The\nTracked Statistics List information can be sorted into ascending or descending\norder by clicking on any of the column headers. The currently sorted column\nwill be indicated by an asterisk (*). You can also drag the columns into any\narrangement that you desire. The sort order and column arrangement will be\nremembered the next time the Tracked Statistics listing is displayed. The\n\u2018Back\u2019 button, when displayed above the top-right of the list, can be clicked\nto return to the previously displayed list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        The listed values are from the Server Statistics\nreporting that happens at the configured \u2018Statistics Interval\u2019 on the StayLinked\nServer. The all of statistics are reset to zero after they are reported. These\nvalues represent totals since the last statistics interval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Here\nare the values that are displayed for each record included in the \u2018Tracked\nStatistics\u2019 list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        • Session ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the unique identifier for the StayLinked session that was running when the statistics data was recorded into the database.<\/li>
        • Recorded \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the date and time when the statistics data was recorded into the database.<\/li>
        • Packets Sent \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of Client2Host UDP packets sent from the server to the client.<\/li>
        • Packets Recd \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of Client2Host UDP packets received at the server from the client.<\/li>
        • Bytes Sent \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of bytes sent from the server to the client.<\/li>
        • Bytes Recd \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of bytes received at the server from the client.<\/li>
        • Out of Seq \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of data packets received from the client that arrived out of sequence.<\/li>
        • Retransmitted \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of data packets sent to the client that had to be retransmitted to the client.<\/li>
        • Duplicate \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of data packets received from the client that are duplicates of those that have already been received.<\/li>
        • Sync OK \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents SYNC OK events. These events are triggered when the client is idle for two-plus seconds causing the client to send a SYNC packet to the server and the server reporting that the client and the server are synchronized (OK).<\/li>
        • Transmit Full \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of transmit buffer full events. This number represents a count of packets that the server tried to send to the device, but there was no room in the server's transmit buffer. If the server is receiving keys or scans from the device and sending screen updates to the device, but the device has not acknowledged receipt of those screen update packets, then the 32-packet transmit buffer on the server could overflow. High numbers here could point to problems delivering packets outbound to the devices.<\/li>
        • Reconnects \u2013<\/strong>This number represents the number of times the client reconnected to an existing session. In these cases, the user will be placed back on their original telnet screen with their original cursor location. Typically this happens if the user has been trained to reboot the device for any reason.<\/li>
        • Barcode Scans \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of barcode scan events processed.<\/li>
        • Key Presses \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the number of key press events processed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 View \u2013 UserID Tracking<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018View\u2019 submenu with a \u2018UserID Tracking\u2019 option. Select this option to display a list of all UserID Tracking records for the selected device\u2019s Unique ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

          The Tracked UserIDs\nList information can be sorted into ascending or descending order by clicking\non any of the columns headers. The currently sorted column will be indicated by\nan asterisk (*). You can also drag the columns into any arrangement that you\ndesire. The sort order and column arrangement will be remembered the next time\nthe Tracked UserIDs listing is displayed. The \u2018Back\u2019 button, when displayed\nabove the top-right of the list, can be clicked to return to the previously\ndisplayed list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Here\nare the values that are displayed for each record included in the \u2018Tracked\nUserIDs\u2019 list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • Session ID \u2013 <\/strong>This is the unique identifier for the StayLinked\nsession that was running when the UserID event was recorded into the database.<\/li>
          • Recorded \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the date and time when\nthe UserID event was recorded into the database.<\/li>
          • Device Name \u2013 <\/strong>This value contains the \u2018Device Name\u2019 that was\nconfigured for the session at the time that this UserID event was recorded.<\/li>
          • User Name \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the User Name that was\nrecorded for this event. The User Name is defined in the Embedded Host API\n(API16) or Screen Recognition Host API that must be implemented in order to\nrecord a UserID event into the Usage Tracking database.<\/li>
          • User Status \u2013 <\/strong>This value represents the source or reason for\nthis event.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cRecorded\nvia Device Authentication\u201d \u2013 <\/strong>This status will be recorded when a user enters\na User ID into the Device Identification screen when a session is started. The\n\u2018Device Identification\u2019 feature must be enabled in order for this event to be\nrecorded. See the \u2018StayLinked User Guide\u2019 for more information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cRecorded\nvia Host API\u201d \u2013 <\/strong>This\nstatus will be recorded when the Embedded Host API (API16) is used to update\nthe StayLinked User Name. See the \u2018StayLinked Host API Guide\u2019 for more\ninformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cRecorded\nvia Screen Recognition\u201d \u2013 <\/strong>This status will be recorded when a \u2018Screen Recognition\u2019\nevent is processed and the \u2018Screen Recognition Host API\u2019 is used to update the StayLinked\nUser Name. See the \u2018StayLinked Screen Recognition User Guide\u2019 for more\ninformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            \u201cSession\nEnded\u201d \u2013 <\/strong>This\nstatus will be recorded when the StayLinked Session is ended and the StayLinked\nUser Name contains a UserID value that was recorded using one of the available\nmethods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Various Reason<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 <\/strong>When a \u2018Clear User Name\u2019 Host API (API25) or a \u2018Screen Recognition\u2019 event is processed and the \u2018Screen Recognition Host API\u2019 is used to clear the StayLinked User Name, a \u2018reason\u2019 can be provided that will be recorded at that time. Typically, these features are used to indicate that a user has logged out of the data collection application, but the session will not end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 Server Logs \u2013 Session Log<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018Server Logs\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Session Log\u2019 option. Select this option to load and display the server-side Session Log for the last IP address associated with the selected device. Note that systems using TEKTERM for Android (SmartTEK) emulation will have an additional option for the TESS session log when session logging is enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 Server Logs \u2013 Handler Log<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018Server Logs\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Handler Log\u2019 option. Select this option to load and display the server-side Handler Log for the last IP address associated with the selected device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 Server Logs \u2013 Socket Log<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018Server Logs\u2019 submenu with a \u2018Socket Log\u2019 option. Select this option to load and display the server-side socket log for the last IP address associated with the selected device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Tracked Devices Menu \u2013 Delete<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The tracked devices menu contains a \u2018Delete\u2019 option. This option provides the ability to delete unique devices from the Usage Tracking database. This menu option can be used when one or more usage tracking items are selected in the list. If a single item is selected to be deleted, this prompt will be displayed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
