This feature enables the management of the User IDs that are used to control access to the StayLinked Server using the StayLinked Administrator software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that v15.4 and newer Administrator versions distributed by Honeywell include an additional disclaimer on the authentication dialogue. StayLinked Administrator to Server communications after the authentication process are not encrypted and should only be used on secured systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Administrator Management Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Following are the primary features\nof Administrator Management:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A User ID and password is required to access a\nserver.<\/li><li>Each StayLinked Server manages its own database of\nUser IDs that have access to that server.<\/li><li>Each User ID describes the in high detail the\nfeatures of the Administrator that the User ID is permitted to access on that\nserver.<\/li><li>Each User ID can describe the subsets of devices\nthat are available to be managed on the server.<\/li><li>Each User ID can be restricted to specific PCs\nallowed to access the server by origination IP address.<\/li><li>User IDs and Passwords are case-sensitive.<\/li><li>Groups can be defined to describe common sets of\npermissions available for use in the Administrator.<\/li><li>User IDs can be assigned to a Group and will\ninherit the available Administrator permissions defined for that Group.<\/li><li>Administrator Management Settings control the\nusage properties of User IDs.<\/li><li>User IDs can become disabled if there are too\nmany unsuccessful attempts to log on.<\/li><li>Passwords for User IDs can be expired at a\nspecified interval, requiring the user to set a new password the next time they\nlog on.<\/li><li>Attributes can be set to control the creation of\npasswords.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>The \u2018administrator\u2019 Master User ID<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nEvery StayLinked Server has an \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID\ndefined. This is the master User ID for each server and this User ID has\npermissions to access all of the features and functions of the Administrator for\nthis server. The default password for the \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID is \u2018esp\u2019.\nThis password can be changed to control access to this User ID. The\n\u2018administrator\u2019 User ID cannot be deleted.<br><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><tbody><tr><td>IMPORTANT: It is     recommended that you create at least one additional User ID with     \u2018Administrator Management\u2019 permissions. This way, if the master     \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID becomes disabled, or you cannot remember the password,     there will be a way to reset the master \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID. If,     however, the master \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID becomes disabled or otherwise     cannot be accessed, there is a way to reset it. You will need to create an     empty file named \u2018resetadmin.xml\u2019 and place that file onto the server in     the \u2018..\\stay-linked\\config\u2019 folder. Then, the next time the StayLinked     Server process is started, the master \u2019administrator\u2019 User ID will be reset     to its default state. The \u2018administrator\u2019 User ID will be re-enabled and     the password will be reset to \u2018esp\u2019. However, a server process restart is     required.                    &nbsp;<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Administrator Management\nfunctions are divided into three groups of configuration settings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>List\nUsers<\/strong> \u2013 Display and edit User IDs that are allowed to manage this server.<\/li><li><strong>List\nGroups <\/strong>\u2013 Display and edit Groups that predefine groups of permissions for\nthis server.<\/li><li><strong>Change\nSettings<\/strong> \u2013 Display and edit settings that control the Administrator\nManagement functions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"588\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-1024x588.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-1024x588.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-768x441.jpg 768w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-50x29.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-60x34.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87-100x57.jpg 100w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_87.jpg 1210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>List Users<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you select \u2018List Users\u2019 from the server tree or the Manage menu, a list of User IDs will appear in the main display panel. There will be only one\n\u2018Administrator\u2019 type user with the User ID of \u2018administrator\u2019. All other User\nIDs that you defined will be of type \u2018User\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Description:<\/strong> This is a free-form description that you can enter to\nhelp identify a user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User Group:<\/strong> This column displays the group that the User ID belongs\nto. If the User ID does not belong to a group, then this column will display\nthe special value of \u2018*NONE\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User Status:<\/strong> This column displays the status of the current user as\neither \u2018Enabled\u2019, \u2018Disabled\u2019 or \u2018Expired\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expire Date:<\/strong> This column displays the date that the password will\nexpire for the User ID. If the Password Expiration Interval setting is set to\nzero, then this column will display \u2018n\/a\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clicking the right mouse button in\na blank area or on a User ID will cause a small menu to appear with options you\ncan perform.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Creating a User ID<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select the menu option to \u2018Create\u2019 a User ID, you will be prompted for the name for the new User ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"363\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89.jpg 363w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89-300x124.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89-50x21.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89-60x25.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_89-100x41.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The User ID name is case-sensitive.\nYou can enter any name that does not already exist on this server. The names\n\u2018John\u2019 and \u2018john\u2019 are considered to be unique names and they can both exist on\nthe server at the same time. It is recommended to use lower-case User IDs for\nconsistency and simplicity. When a User ID is created, the password is set to\nmatch the new User ID name. The User ID is also created in the expired status\nand the user will be forced to change the password the first time they log on\nusing this new User ID. Once the User ID is created, it will appear in the User\nList and you can then configure the permissions for the user as desired.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Editing a User ID<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you double-click on, or select the menu option to \u2018Edit\u2019, the selected User ID, you will be presented with this dialog:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"526\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90.jpg 526w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90-300x274.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90-50x46.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90-60x55.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_90-100x91.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From this dialog, you can perform\nthese functions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update the User Description:<\/strong> You can enter a description to help\nidentify the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Assign the User ID to an existing Group:<\/strong> If assigned to a Group,\nthe User ID will adopt the permissions assigned to that Group. You can then\noverride individual permissions for this User ID as desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Change User ID Permissions:<\/strong> The permissions list enumerates the\nvarious available Modules and Functions that can be individually controlled by\nsetting these permissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>View and change the Allowed Origin IPs:<\/strong> This feature provides the\nability to restrict access to this server for a given User ID by the\norigination IP address of the Administrator PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>View and change the Connection Filters:<\/strong> This feature provides\ncontrol over the connections that this User ID can view and manage in the\nAdministrator Connections List.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Save Changes:<\/strong> Select the \u2018Save Changes\u2019 option from the File menu\nto save your changes to this User ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The various elements of this dialog\nare:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User ID<\/strong> \u2013 The User ID that is being edited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User Status<\/strong> \u2013 The current status of this User ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Enabled <\/strong>\u2013 The user ID is active and available to be logged on.<br>\n<strong>Disabled<\/strong> &#8211; The User ID is not\navailable to be logged on. A User ID can become disabled by manually changing\nthe status, or if the system is configured to disable the User ID after too\nmany failed logon attempts.<br>\n<strong>Expired<\/strong> \u2013 The password for this User\nID is expired. The next time a user attempts to log on with this User ID, they\nwill be prompted to change their password. A User ID can be manually expired or\nthe system can be configured to automatically expire the password at a specified\ninterval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Description<\/strong> \u2013 The description for the User ID that is being edited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User Group<\/strong> \u2013 The Group to which this User ID is a member. If the User ID is not a member of a Group, then the value will be *NONE. If the User ID is assigned to a Group, then the User IDs permissions will be adopted from that Group. When you select a Group from the drop-down list, you will be warned that all of the permissions will be changed to match the selected Group permissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"407\" height=\"170\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2209\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91.jpg 407w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91-300x125.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91-50x21.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91-60x25.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_91-100x42.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Expire Date<\/strong> \u2013 The date that the User ID will expire and require the\nuser to enter a new password. If this value is displaying \u2018n\/a\u2019, then this\nmeans that the server is configured to never expire User IDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Permissions List<\/strong> \u2013 This list contains all of the modules and\nfunctions that can be controlled using permissions. The list displays these\ncolumns:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Module<\/strong> \u2013 The module in the Administrator to which the permissions apply.<br> <strong>Function<\/strong> \u2013 The specific function within the module to which the permission applies.<br> <strong>Setting<\/strong> \u2013 The configurable setting that controls the effective permission for this module\/function.<br> <strong>Value<\/strong> \u2013 The effective permission for this module\/function based upon the selected setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If the User ID has any \u2018Connection Filters\u2019 defined, then there will be no \u2018Connection List\u2019 module functions displayed in this \u2018User Information\u2019 permissions list. Instead, you will select the \u2018Connection Filters\u2019 option from the \u2018View\u2019 menu to access the \u2018Connection Filters\u2019 that have been defined for this User ID. When you edit a \u2018Connection Filter\u2019, you can configure the permissions that will apply for the \u2018Connection List\u2019 module for the Connections to which the user is allowed access according to that Connection Filter.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Changing User ID Permissions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From the Edit User ID dialog\ndisplaying the User ID Information, you can see the permissions list. Each item\nin this list represents a unique function within a module of the Administrator.\nYou can set the permissions that this user has for the individual function in\nthe module by right-clicking on the item in the permissions list. A context-sensitive\nmenu will appear with the available permissions for this selected item. If the\nUser ID is a member of a Group, then the possible settings for the item are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*GROUP<\/strong> \u2013 Set the permission to the value defined in the Group for\nthis module and function.<br>\n<strong>*YES<\/strong> \u2013 Give the user permission to\nthis module and function, overriding any Group settings.<br>\n<strong>*NO<\/strong> \u2013 Deny the user permission to\nthis module and function, overriding any Group settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The menu options that will appear\nare based upon the current setting for this item and the Group membership for\nthe User ID.<br>\nIf the User ID is not a member of a Group, then depending upon the current\nsetting, the only possible menu options will be either *YES -or- *NO.<br>\nIf the User ID is a Group member, then depending upon the current setting, the\nmenu options could be either *YES and *NO -or- *GROUP and *YES -or- *GROUP and\n*NO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When setting permissions, you can\nselect multiple items from the permissions list and apply your desired setting\nto all of them at once. If you use Ctrl-Click, then you can select multiple\nindividual items from anywhere in the list. If you use Shift-Click, then you\ncan select a contiguous block of items. Right-click on the selected items and a\ncontext menu will appear with the available permissions, depending upon whether\nthe User ID is a member of a Group or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the User ID is not a member of a group, then the menu options will include both *YES and *NO. If the User ID is a group member, then the menu options will include *GROUP and *YES and *NO. The permission that you select from the menu will be applied to all selected items in the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"526\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92.jpg 526w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92-300x274.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92-50x46.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92-60x55.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_92-100x91.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3>View and change the Allowed Origin IPs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For each User ID, you can control which Administrator PCs can be used to manage the server. You can specify a list of Allowed Origin IPs for the Administrator PCs that can be used to manage the server and this User ID will only be able to sign on to the server from one of those PCs. If you do not specify one or more Allowed Origin IPs, then the user will not be restricted and can sign on from any Administrator PC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To view and change the Allowed Origin IPs, select the \u2018Allowed Origin IPs\u2019 option from the \u2018View\u2019 menu. Clicking the right mouse button in a blank area or on a Origin IP will cause a small menu to appear with options you can perform. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"526\" height=\"354\" src=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93.jpg 526w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93-50x34.jpg 50w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93-60x40.jpg 60w, https:\/\/portal.staylinked.com\/sl\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/UserAdminGuide_93-100x67.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can Add and Delete Allowed Origin IPs from the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Add<\/strong> \u2013 Select this menu option to add a new Allowed Origin IP for this User ID. You can set\nthe permissions that this user has for the individual function by\nright-clicking on the item in the permissions list. A context-sensitive menu\nwill appear with the available permissions for this selected item. Depending\nupon the current setting, the only possible menu option will be either *YES\n-or- *NO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When setting permissions, you can\nselect multiple items from the permissions list and apply your desired setting\nto all of them at once. If you use Ctrl-Click, then you can select multiple\nindividual items from anywhere in the list. If you use Shift-Click, then you\ncan select a contiguous block of items. Right-click on the selected items and a\ncontext menu will appear with the available permissions, both *YES and *NO. Depending upon\nthe User ID\u2019s current status, the menu will display either a \u2018Enable\u2019 option or\na \u2018Disable\u2019 option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select the \u2018Disable\u2019 menu\noption, then the User ID will be disabled and will not be available for use until\nyou manually \u2018enable\u2019 the User ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select the \u2018Enable\u2019 menu\noption, then the User ID will be enabled and if the User ID was expired, the\n\u2018password last changed\u2019 date will be reset so that the User ID is no longer\nexpired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Setting a User ID to Expired<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the \u2018Set to Expired\u2019\nmenu option to force a user to change their password the next time they\nsuccessfully log on to the server. This is a common option to use after\nmanually changing the password for a User ID.
