Windows 10 Enterprise StayLinked Service Stops on Session Startup

Symptom:  Attempting to connect an emulation session to the StayLinked Server causes the StayLinked Server Service to stop.

Some Windows 10 Enterprise machines running operating system around or older than version 1809 have a been identified with compatibility issues when running StayLinked Server release v15.1 build 208 and newer. These older OS versions contain a Windows file ntdll.dll that will cause an immediate stop of the StayLinked Server Service if any connections are attempted. This is a combination of the OpenJ9 Java version bundled in this releases and controls that have been replaced by Microsoft.

Solution:  Three options are available to resolve this issue:

  1. Allow Windows to update to a current kernel and OS version. Windows OS versions 2004 and newer are not affected by these issues.
  2. Downgrade the StayLinked Server to v15.0 build 206 which includes an older, compatible Java runtime.
  3. Replace the JRE subdirectory under StayLinked with a compatible Java runtime (not recommended).
