Automatic Landscape Mode

Most warehouse management systems are designed for screens in portrait orientation.  Introducing wearables that operate in landscape orientation present a significant challenge when the screens are designed in portrait orientation and require significant alteration unless the lower screen section can be ignored.

Starting in v15.3 build 230-14, Android clients support a new setting under the Display category. Automatic Landscape Conversion will split the screen into two equal halves when enabled.  Text on the bottom portion of the original portrait screen will spillover on the right side of the landscape display, flowing top to bottom.  Now save changes and terminate your session from the Administrator in “All Connections” and reconnect from the mobile device to view the changes.

This feature is usually used in conjunction with other settings, such as disabling automatic rotation. Be sure to account for double the number of rows when configuring the client for fixed rows and columns.

For example, setting your Viewport Rows and Columns to 16 x 21 and with automatic landscape enabled will provide a Viewport that displayed 8 x 42.

Note that custom redesigned screens are not supported and SmartTiles objects that span virtual columns are not supported when using this feature.
