Honeywell Pre-Licensed Clients automatically update through Google Play Store

StayLinked is available as SmartTE on some Honeywell devices, which can be pre-licensed by the manufacturer. While the Server and Administrator are completely interchangeable, Honeywell licensed Clients must be downloaded from Honeywell.

Three different styles of splash screens may be presented:

Standard StayLinked branding as displayed here with a green log on grey background, does not offer any pre-licensing options and requires a license on the Server to account for the concurrent number of sessions.

Re-branded, but not pre-licensed devices can use special Honeywell single-session licensing.

Pre-Licensed Clients do not require a license for use against any StayLinked or SmartTE Server.

As part of Honeywell’s pre-licensing program, some test clients that were never intended for publication were pre-loaded on production devices. These clients can update to current StayLinked Client software from the Google Play Store, losing their Honeywell software and licensing options. These clients will then require the Server has licensing to allow their connections, since the Client no longer provides its own licensing.

In order to return to pre-licensed clients, the devices must reload the Honeywell-branded versions, avoiding Client builds 206 and 208 which may automatically update again. All pre-licensed Honeywell Clients must be downloaded from Honeywell. The Honeywell article on the subject can be found here:

Note that any Client version 210 and higher should not be subject to this issue. StayLinked now signs all Clients but uses different publishing versions for Honeywell and the Google Play Store. Client builds 222 and higher now also differentiate build numbers from our downloads site, preventing Google automatic updates on Clients unless they were installed using the Google Play Store.
